WORK DAYS PER FISCAL YEAR:  2 Days per week

This position is in charge of Federal and State programs that support the educational programming for students with identified special needs such as learning disabilities, Title 1, Learning Assistance (LAP), 504 Plans, WA-Kids and other students with at-risk factors.  Supervises the district nurse, physical therapist, vision specialist, speech therapist and district psychologist to assure coordination of services is delivered to schools.  Monitors student records/data/IEPs.  Assures compliance of special education programs.

CONTEXT AND MISSION:  North Beach Public Schools serves approximately 650 students in the communities of Ocean Shores, Ocean City, Copalis, Seabrook, and Pacific Beach in Washington State. Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Develop and manage budgets, including state and federal grants for special education, Title 1, LAP, and WA-Kids.
  • Review and approve student files for special education eligibility, Title 1, LAP, 504 Plans and placement in appropriate programs.
  • Supervises and evaluates district employed certificated and classified personnel assigned to special education programs as appropriate.
  • Monitors district compliance of state and federal rules and regulations relating to special education, 504 Plans, Title 1, LAP, and WA-Kids.
  • Monitors the quality of programs for special education students.
  • Informs district staff of procedures, trends, innovations, and practices for special education students.
  • Complies and completes all state and federal mandated applications and reports regarding special education program, 504 Plans, Title 1, LAP, and WA-Kids.
  • Assist instructional staff in aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment with relevant standard learning goals.
  • Work with principals to develop an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm for delivery of services to students.
  • Work positively with a diverse range of parents, staff, agencies, and community members to establish healthy involvement in planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs pertaining to special education students.
  • Respond to parents and building needs in a timely and collaborative manner.
  • Manage resources to meet legal requirements.
  • Develop and implement a data-driven program to increase student achievement and meet individual student goals.
  • Professional interact with students, staff, and public.
  • Develops and provides staff development.
  • Manage contract services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • Master's Degree.
  • Undergraduate degree with a Special Education major, Special Education endorsement or ESA certification.
  • Minimum of five-year prior successful teaching or equivalent classroom/program experience.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership and management qualities.
  • Working knowledge of rules, regulations, and law dealing with Special Education.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate and valid Washington State Administrative Credential and certification.
  • Driver's license may be required.
  • CPR/First Aid may be required.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal background clearance.
