Company Overview

The Centre for Organization Effectiveness (the Centre) is a California Joint Powers Authority dedicated to advancing the public sector by inspiring excellence in leaders at all levels in community-serving organizations – public sector, nonprofit, education, and healthcare – and by helping them positively affect people’s lives. Since 1993, the Centre has partnered with hundreds of such organizations to drive important outcomes.

The Centre's small but tight-knit team plans and facilitates 400 projects of various scope and complexity each year for dozens of public sector clients throughout California. Centre employees work remotely most of the time, gathering virtually and in person about once each month to connect, collaborate, and advance strategic initiatives.

Company History

The Centre was founded in 1993 by Trudy Sopp while she was an employee at the City of San Diego. The training programs she coordinated became so popular among public sector agencies outside of the city, that the Centre was spun off as a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) in 2000 so it could better serve the region and the state. As a JPA, the Centre is a member of the public sector it seeks to serve.

Tripled in size in five years. Near 100% success rate with RFPs. Thousands of projects with dozens of clients. Very low employee turnover.
