Gender Dynamix is a primary care mental health service supporting the transgender, non-binary and gender diverse community. We are a small charitable organisation with a government contract for two clinical FTE and two peer support FTE within the Bay of Plenty region, with additional contracted fee-for-service out-of-area supports in the Lakes region.
We are currently seeking a new Clinical Lead for the organisation, based in Tauranga, New Zealand, to start in early 2026

REPORTS TO: Board of Trustees
JOB TYPE: Fulltime (40 hours per week)
DIRECT REPORTS: 1.07FTE nursing & allied health, 2.0FTE peer support
OTHER DUTIES: Primary liaison with Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora
REMUNERATION: $90K-$128K ($NZ) (dependent on experience)
ROLE FUNCTION
The Clinical Lead is responsible for managing Gender Dynamix clinical services. This individual oversees daily programming and implements strategic planning goals that require staff leadership, clinical development, stakeholder coordination and collaboration. They will carry out the organisation’s vision and mission according to the strategic direction of the Board of Trustees. They represent Gender Dynamix at key stakeholder meetings and oversee clinical multidisciplinary team meetings.
This individual is also responsible for providing direct client care and clinical supervision at Gender Dynamix. All services will be delivered in a professional and safe manner with a commitment to international and NZ standards of care, equity, inclusion, and te Tiriti o Waitangi.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and collaborate in the development, implementation, review and evaluation of clinical services for delivery of safe and effective primary mental health care.
Accountable for clinical services; triage, referrals, allocation, outcomes, reporting and clinical supervision.
Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership, clinical practice and role modelling behaviour.
Demonstrate use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships, including with relevant specialists, and executive management, and manages conflict to promote cooperation, teamwork and understanding.
Demonstrate and apply highly developed knowledge and understanding of social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence healthcare provision for transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse persons.
Provide clinical assessment, formulation and diagnostics.
Provide clinical gender diversity related education and training to staff and stakeholders.
Participate in internal and external multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including but not limited to paediatric and sexual health MDTs.
Respond to media and press requests involving Gender Dynamix in collaboration with the Board of Trustees (media training will be given).
Selection Criteria
Current professional registration with a NZ regulatory authority (as per HPCA Act 2003) or eligible for same.
Master’s degree or higher in a mental health / psychiatric field.
A minimum of eight years’ work experience with experience in formulation and diagnostics.
A minimum of five years of management and/or leadership experience.
Able to identify co-existing mental health or other psychosocial concerns.
NZ Full driving licence or eligible for same.
Experience working with clients across the life span.
Expertise in therapeutic group-work.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Committed to maintaining confidentiality and acting at all times in an ethical manner.
Commitment to ongoing professional development & recognises limitations of own knowledge.
Further Information
This offer of appointment is subject to a Police Vetting Check that compiles with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children’s Act 2014. In accordance with this Act, Gender Dynamix must ensure the safety check complies with the Vulnerable Children’s Act S31.
Also please note that Gender Dynamix is required to renew the police check on a three-yearly basis thereafter. You should be aware that Gender Dynamix reserves the right to terminate your employment in the event of adverse information arising from this check.
