About the Department:
The Department of Counselor Education, which consists of seven full-time faculty members, has the first and longest running CACREP-accredited programs in New Jersey in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. Faculty members in the department also have the option of teaching at our international site in Lisbon, Portugal every summer. The department is proud of its faculty members, who are acclaimed leaders and scholars in the profession, and its students, who are consistently inducted into Chi Sigma Iota, The Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International. Position Overview:
The Department of Counselor Education at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, non-tenure-track Clinical Specialist to join our community starting in August 2026. The position is offered for an initial two-year appointment, with potential for renewal for a second two-year appointment and subsequent three-year appointments based on performance.
The successful candidate will serve as a core program faculty member who is responsible for effective teaching, advising, and professional activity in the field of counseling (sustained memberships in counseling associations, maintenance of certifications and/or licenses in counseling, sustained professional development and service to the profession). Teaching responsibilities will include seven courses over the academic year (fall and spring terms).
Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education , demonstrated through, for example , culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education; or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; or have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018. ABD candidates must have completed the PhD by the time the appointment begins
- Demonstrate cultural competency and ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues.
- Have, or be eligible for, professional counseling certifications and/or licenses in New Jersey.
Preferred:
- Have two years or more of direct counseling experience outside of academia.
- Have at least two years of teaching experience.
- Have earned the doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited program .
