Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Review architectural, structural, and civil engineering plans for commercial and multi-family residential for compliance with adopted building codes (IBC, IECC, IFC, etc.), local ordinances, zoning regulations, and engineering standards.
Conducts the plan review and inspections of site improvements for private development and work in the right-of-way in conjunction with planning, zoning, building and engineering processes
Coordinate plan review processes with internal departments (e.g., Engineering, Fire, Planning, and Public Works).
Provide clear written and verbal feedback to applicants, design professionals, and contractors regarding code compliance, deficiencies, and necessary revisions.
Assist in the issuance of permits by verifying plan compliance and reviewing required documentation.
Coordinates directly with property owners to implement solutions under the Backyard Drainage Program.
Perform site work for new residential buildings or additions, including general site grading, drainage, and field inspections to verify compliance and assess complex design conditions.
Coordinate with MWRD for permits and final inspections
Reviewing development plans through the Preliminary Plan Review (PPR) and Site Plan review process
Uses the Village’s permit and inspection tracking software to document permits, inspections and updates as needed
Participate in pre-submittal and pre-construction meetings as necessary.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in plan review, building inspection, or related field.
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, preferred.
ICC Certified Plans Examiner or Building Plans Examiner.
Familiarity with civil/site plan elements including grading, stormwater management, utilities, energy codes/sustainability and ADA accessibility.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Ability to interpret and apply complex codes and regulations.
International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) building inspector certifications or the ability to obtain ICC Certifications within 18 months.
Working knowledge of the International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), and other ICC codes.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Proficiency with permitting and plan review software (e.g., BS&A, Bluebeam).
Valid Driver’s License
Take continuing education courses to maintain certifications
