Job Summary and Description:
Veracyte is seeking a highly motivated Equipment Operations Engineer I to join our Equipment Engineering and Operations team at our South San Francisco headquarters.
The Equipment Operations Engineer I is responsible for supporting and executing activities across the equipment lifecycle and maintenance/metrology program. This role involves hands-on work with laboratory instrumentation, including coordinating, performing, and documenting equipment-related activities such as installation, qualification, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This equipment engineer will apply fundamental engineering principles to ensure equipment reliability, regulatory, compliance, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and eager to build upon foundational skills needed to grow within the Equipment Engineering discipline.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate, schedule, and execute equipment preventive maintenance, calibrations, verifications, and qualifications to ensure minimal disruption to lab operations and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
Troubleshoot and support root cause investigations for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
Support cross-functional efforts related to equipment installation, relocation, and decommissioning of lab instruments with minimal guidance.
Maintain accurate and compliant documentation of equipment service events, calibration records, and qualifications in compliance with regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, IVD, and/or RDA regulations).
Support development and authoring of equipment specifications, user requirements, and IQ/OQ protocols.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders (QA, CLIA Operations, and IT) to support lab readiness and continuous improvement initiatives.
Train laboratory staff on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and newly integrated systems.
Adhere to procedures and policies outlined within Veracytes quality management system.
Who You Are:
1-2 years of related experience with a BS/BA or higher degree in Engineering field or equivalent work experience.
1-2 years of hands-on experience in equipment engineering or reliablity engineering within a highly regulated environment.
1 year of experience developing/writing equipment qualification plans, calibration strategies, and maintenance and operation procedures.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues and drive resolution independently or collaboratively.
Familiarity with lab instrumentation, preventive maintenance, and calibration standards.
Familiarity using common tools, calibration devices, and sensors as trained.
Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
Proficient with common software tools (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with CMMS (BMRAM, Limble, EAM, SAP) and LIMS integration.
Working knowledge of root cause analysis tools (e.g. 5 whys, fishbone, FMEA).

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
